International Workshop: Genesis and dynamics of large active calderas: the case of Campi Flegrei and the Campanian Plain Naples, May 2–5, 2023

Dear IAVCEI members and volcano-fans,

we remind you of the invitation to participate in the International Workshop on “Genesis and dynamics of large active calderas: the case of Campi Flegrei and the Campanian Plain”, that will occur in Naples on May
2-5 and is co-organized by the INGV-OV (Vesuvius Observatory), the IAVCEI, Naples University, and ECORD-IODP Italy, with a thanked support of Naples’ Municipality.

This international Workshop is aimed at making the point on our scientific understanding of the genesis and dynamics of large active calderas in general, with a focus on the very active Campi Flegrei volcanic system and new results from recent drillings in the area.
Scientific sessions on May 2-4 will be hosted at the Conference hall of San Severo al Pendino Church, in the historic center of Naples (a few meters from Piazza Nicola Amore and 20 meters from the Metro station ‘Duomo’). They will be followed on May 5 by a one-day field excursion in Campi Flegrei caldera and the Campanian Plain for those interested. For more information, please click here.

We welcome a large Italian and international participation to this Workshop, in particular from members of the IAVCEI Commission on Collapse Calderas. The deadline for abstract submission and registration is March 31. Mailing has to be addressed to Mauro de Vito (mauro.divito@ingv.it) and Giuseppe de Natale (giuseppe.denatale@ingv.it), with copy to the IAVCEI secretariat (iavcei@associationhouse.cz).

Patrick Allard, IAVCEI President,
Roberto Sulpizio, IAVCEI Secretary General
Francesca Bianco, Director of INGV’s Volcanology Mauro de Vito, Director of INGV-OV
