Nominations are now open for the Volcanic Crisis and Surveillance Award

Nominations are now open for the Volcanic Crisis and Surveillance Award

This award honours institutions and observatories that have demonstrated exemplary performance in monitoring volcanic activity and managing crises. Recognizing successful risk assessment, effective eruption forecasting, and outstanding crisis response, this award highlights the critical role of volcano observatories and monitoring agencies in safeguarding communities at risk.

Nominations must be sent to the IAVCEI Secretary General by 13 March 2026 (midnight Central European Time).

As in 2026 no Cities on Volcanoes meeting will take place, we plan the award ceremony at one of the alternative events that the commission Cities and Volcanoes (https://citiesonvolcanoes.wordpress.com/next-conference/) has co-organised.

Details on the nomination process, award criteria and description can be found here: Please only use this nomination form for application. Each nomination must have one lead nominator and three supporting nominators. Everyone/every group can be nominated for the VSCM award (no IAVCEI membership required). Each nomination must have one lead nominator (must be IAVCEI member) and 3 supporting nominators (no IAVCEI membership required). No more than 2 nominators can be from the same country, and the lead and nominators must meet IAVCEI’s conflict of interest requirements.
