Notes

please read carefully

Altitude: Los Alamos lies at 2225 m (~ 7,300ft) – the caldera lies at 2850 m (9,300 ft) -please be warned that these altitudes may affect some people and please take appropriate precautions. Walk slowly, there is no rush!

Workshop – 5 days; 3 in the field and 2 in lectures. Details TBD but will include a one-day overview of the caldera, including the inter-caldera lava domes and the resurgent block, led by Fraser Goff, the local expert.

Field guide: Several field guides, both published and unpublished, exist, written by Goff, Wolff, Self, Stix or combinations thereof. Can be adapted, again TBD. Costs are TBD; e-only.

The Workshop site – Los Alamos – is difficult to reach. It is possible to fly to Santa Fe (closer to Los Alamos), but typically is more expensive. We advise you to fly to Albuquerque, New Mexico. We will offer transport to Los Alamos from Santa Fe in our rented vehicles at times to be specified (TBD). A train or buses link Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

Please excuse that some items (such as Workshop Fee) need to be finalized. We hope to see you in September 2026. Weather prediction? Warm days (18-20 C), cold nights (5 C) – layering is the best option! Rain might occur in afternoons.
