2nd Circular available for Crossing New Frontiers, Romania, 2018

Dear tephrochronologist, Quaternarists, volcanologists, archaeologists (and others with an interest in tephra)
We are very pleased to advise that the 2nd circular for the INTAV conference in June year, “Crossing New Frontiers: Tephra Hunt in Transylvania, Sun 24 June-Fri 29 June, 2018”, is now available and ready to access. The URL is given below.

http://www.bayceer.uni-bayreuth.de/intav2018/

The 2nd circular comprises an online website (kindly hosted by Bayreuth Univ) for the conference and has all the details needed to find out more about the meeting and the stunning venue, how to register and pay fees, book accommodation, upload abstracts, select oral or poster presntation, find out about field trips and book the 3-day postconference field trip, apply for student/ECR travel grants, etc.

  • Topics covered on the website include:
  • Home
  • Key dates: VERY IMPORTANT as we have ‘early bird’ (discounted) registration fees, note deadline for ECR travel grant applications
  • Keynote speakers:a stellar line up
  • Program (some main themes listed, more are likely to evolve as papers come in)
  • Information and abstract submission (young scientists travel grants, publication of papers)
  • Fees and payment
  • Venue and transport
  • Registration
  • Organisers and sponsors

We especially encourage all to have a look at the website now and to check out some of the images and videos of the wonderful mountain location of Moieciu and surroundings near the city of Brasov (under “Venue and transportation”). Early career researchers (graduate students, postdocs) have an opportunity to apply for travel grants to help get you to the meeting (conditions apply – see the section “Information and abstract”).

The registration fee for the conference includes a one-day intraconference field trip to Persani volcanic field, Dracula’s Castle (etc) for all participants as well as meals and other items during the conference.

The postconference trip, “Late Quaternary Carpathian volcanism and Lower Danube paleoclimate: implications for establishing an integrated tephrostratigraphic framework” (Fri 29 June to Sun 1 July, ending at Bucharest),  truly has something for everyone over the 3 days. It is to be booked and paid for separately. Numbers may be limited hence please book your place early!

Accommodation is a separate item to be booked directly with the conference resort hotel. Note that a special discount has been negotiated by the organisers (use a special code when booking: INTAV-RO).
Please send this email note on to all who may be interested and keen to join us in the Carpathian Mountains, Transylvania, Romania, from 24-29 June this year for our tephra meeting. Any queries can be directed to the email addresses given on the website, Convenor of the LOC, Daniel Veres (Romanian Academy, Institute of Speleology and Babes-Bolyai University, Romania), and his colleagues, are ready to provide advice and help sort out any problems or queries that may arise. Ulrich Hambach (University of Bayreuth, Germany) is kindly looking after the website and can help out if needed with aspects relating to online registration etc.

We look forward to seeing many of you at what promises to be a fantastic and memorable tephra meeting!

A similar announcement will be provided on the INTAV website and via our INTAV Facebook page. Please join the latter to get further updates.

Kind regards
David Lowe and Daniel Veres
