Taking advantage of Toba\u2019s unique record, resurgence will be a major theme. The workshop will consists of 3 full days of presentations and discussion, and 2.5 full days of \ufb01eld-based discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop will be held in charming Tuk Tuk on the eastern edge of Samosir island.Field trips will visit the key sites and outcrops of Samosir Island and Toba caldera. An optional visit to Sinabung Volcano Observatory is available to view the activity there. Many \ufb02ights connect from&nbsp;Jakarta,&nbsp;Tokyo, and Singapore&nbsp;and other Asian hubs. Night at Airport hotel (own cost) or late flight out.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"block-heading\">Costs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Registration fee for the workshop<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(The cost is expected to be $750 for full IAVCEI member registration; it will be given at the Second Circular\uff09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cost above includes registration for the 3-days of workshop, 2.5 days \ufb01eld trips, 7 nights accommodations on a twin room basis* (one night at the airport, 6 at the conference site), all meals (from the icebreaker dinner on the 20th&nbsp;night to the dinner on the 28th of September), and transporta1on to and from the Kualanamu airport, Medan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*A single occupancy premium of $150 will be charged<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are planning to set a discounted registration $500 for Early Career folk that will be based on triple and quadruple occupancy. Acceptance to attend the workshop will be prioritized based on previous attendance at commission workshops, courses and other commission activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abstract:<br>An abstract style guide and detailed will be provided in the second circular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"block-heading\">What is the Commission on Collapse Calderas?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The IAVCEI Commission on Collapse Calderas (CCC) was created in March 2008 to have a wider and&nbsp;deeper understanding on calderas. The idea to file for a commission emerged in 2005, during a workshop on Caldera Volcanism, at which the Collapse Calderas Work Group was formed. The CCC includes a wide spectrum of disciplines, such as caldera geology, geophysics, mathematical and analogue modelling, subcaldera magma chamber processes, volcanic hazard and risk management, economic benefits and environmental research. Thus, it promotes interdisciplinary interaction to help solve the many questions regarding the formation of collapse calderas, theri evolution, and affect on society.
