{"id":497,"date":"2020-11-15T15:18:59","date_gmt":"2020-11-15T15:18:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iavceivolcano.org\/guidelines-for-iavcei-awards\/george-walker-award\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T10:48:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T10:48:15","slug":"george-walker-award","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.iavceivolcano.org\/awards\/george-walker-award\/","title":{"rendered":"George Walker award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The George Walker award is awarded every 2 years at both the IAVCEI Scientific Assembly and at the IAVCEI General Assembly to Early Career Researchers (ECR) as defined in paragraph 4.2 of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iavceivolcano.org\/statutes-and-by-laws\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"12\">Statutes &amp; By-Laws<\/a> (Nominees must be ECR at the time of nomination submission).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Excluding Career Breaks as defined in paragraph 4.3 of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iavceivolcano.org\/statutes-and-by-laws\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.iavceivolcano.org\/statutes-and-by-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Statutes &amp; By-Laws<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The George Walker Award honours the memory of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_P._L._Walker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Professor George Walker<\/a>, who was born on 2 March 1926 and died on 17 January 2005. Professor Walker\u2019s discoveries pioneered a modern quantitative approach to physical volcanology and greatly accelerated understanding of volcanic processes.
